GREENWICH, CT — The candidates for the vacant 36th State Senate seat will face-off in a debate, scheduled for 7 p.m., Aug. 3 at Greenwich Town Hall. Democrat Alexis Gevanter, Republican Ryan Fazio, and Independent candidate John Blankley have all confirmed their participation, according to a news release from event host, My Voting Power (MVP). A special election for the open seat will take place on Aug. 17. The seat covers all of Greenwich and a portion of Stamford and New Canaan. Former State Sen. Alex Kasser (D) suddenly resigned last month. "My Voting Power's three-way debate will last for one hour with the objective of learning candidate positions on the issues and will be promoted primarily to millennials and secondarily to non-millennials in the senate district," according to the news release. MVP is a non partisan organization committed to helping enhance millennial involvement in politics and register millennials to vote in Greenwich. The candidates will also participate in a forum on Aug. 6, hosted by the League of Women Voters of Greenwich, New Canaan, and Stamford.
