STAMFORD, CT — Person-to-Person (P2P) announced recently in a news release that the United Way of Western Connecticut has awarded them with $11,000 as part of its COVID-19 Resiliency Grant Program for work with P2P's Stamford-based programs. P2P is a non-profit agency dedicated to providing individuals and families with essential resources to help them overcome daily challenges and put them on a path toward economic stability. P2P serves 28,000 residents in Fairfield County with three food pantries in Darien, Norwalk and Stamford, a clothing center, caseworker assistance, emergency financial assistance, and scholarships/camperships. "Person-to-Person is grateful for the generous and ongoing support from United Way of Western Connecticut," said P2P CEO Nancy Coughlin in a news release. "Their COVID-19 Resiliency Grant Program has been instrumental in helping P2P support the thousands of individuals and families we serve in our Stamford location." Throughout the pandemic, P2P has provided essential resources such as healthy food, emergency financial assistance for rent and utilities, caseworker support, as well as clothing and enrichment programs. The organization has met the increased need brought on by the pandemic. According to a news release, P2P's food program distributed 71% more groceries in the 12 months after the pandemic started, the equivalent of more than two million meals (roughly 5,831 meals a day). Additionally, P2P's Emergency Financial Assistance increased 178%. "As more people lost jobs, experienced reduced hours, or succumbed to the COVID themselves, making rent payments became more and more difficult," P2P said in a news release. In the first 12 months following the start of the pandemic, P2P issued $1 milion in emergency financial assistance, mostly for rent, to help keep families safely housed during the crisis.
