Get to know the very unusual history of the Century of Progress district the evening before the tour. Indiana Landmarks, in partnership with the Indiana Dunes National Park (IDNP), welcomes two speakers to discuss the 1933 Century of Progress World’s Fair and its impact on architectural innovation in the twentieth century. Rick Rann, owner of World’s Fair Memorabilia Show, will take us through a visual journey with his extensive personal collection of memorabilia from the 1933 World’s Fair. Edward Torrez, principal at BauerLatoza Studio and lead preservation architect on the House of Tomorrow restoration, will provide insight on the architectural legacy of the House of Tomorrow and how its design guides our current approach to sustainable design. A park ranger from Indiana Dunes National Park will also provide a brief history of the park. The talks take place at Indiana Dunes Visitor Center, 1215 N. State Road 49, Porter, beginning at 7 p.m. Central Time, with a reception and light refreshments. The talks run from 7:30-8:45 p.m., followed by more refreshments and Q&A session that concludes at 9 p.m. The visitor center is fully accessible.
