'Call Me Liz': Meet Arlington Superintendent Elizabeth Homan

ARLINGTON, MA — Dr. Elizabeth Homan assumed her role as superintendent of Arlington schools July 1. Homan, a former assistant superintendent in Waltham, was selected by the School Committee to succeed Kathleen Bodie last fall. "My name is Dr. Elizabeth Homan, but you all can call me Liz," Homan said in an introduction video June 30. In the video, Homan discussed her background and interests, which include running, kayaking, cooking and exploring New England with her family. Homan moved to Boston in 2014 after working in education in Indiana and Michigan, spending a year in the Boston Public Schools before taking a job in Waltham. She spent three years overseeing technology, digital learning and libraries in Waltham before being named assistant superintendent. In voting to name Homan superintendent, School Committee Chair Jane Morgan cited her efforts to align curriculum and establish professional development to narrow the achievement gap in Waltham. She also led the district's efforts to address COVID-19 and incorporate student wellness and academic progress during the pandemic, Morgan said. Watch Homan's introduction video below:
