FREEPORT, NY — Amid the growing tension in Cuba, a rally was held Tuesday in opposition to the humanitarian crisis on the island nation. Mayor Robert Kennedy was joined by Nassau County Legislator Steve Rhoads in calling out the Cuban government that has been under fire for handling street protests. People held signs that said "U.S. Please Help", "Stop Genocide" and "Stop Slavery! Freedom for Cuba!" It's an unprecedented move for Cubans, who are out in protest for the first time in six decades, the Wall Street Journal reported. They are fighting back against the communist regime due to deteriorating living conditions and facing a rise in COVID-19 cases.
