NAUGATUCK, CT — Police found more than 50 bags of suspected fentanyl along with crack cocaine and a gun in an abandoned stolen car after officers tried to stop it Monday night in Naugatuck, according to officials.
Police tried to stop the stolen vehicle around 9:20 p.m. on Waterbury Turnpike but the driver fled from officers. However, officers soon found the same stolen Honda Accord abandoned on Spring Brook Road in Waterbury, according to police.
Police found a Glock pistol with an obliterated serial number along with 56 bags of suspected fentanyl, and 7.2 grams of suspected crack cocaine, according to officials.
"The destruction of a firearm's serial number is consistent with efforts to render the weapon untraceable when used in various criminal endeavors," police wrote in a news release. "The investigation into the origins of the firearm and drugs is ongoing at this time and arrests may be forthcoming.
"The Naugatuck Police recognize the danger that these illegal firearms pose to public and commend our officers' efforts in removing this firearm and narcotics from the streets of the community."
