HAMDEN, CT — Three teenagers, ages 15 and 16, were arrested Tuesday in connection with the theft of a vehicle outside of Church Street School in Hamden, according to police.
An investigation found that the owner of the vehicle left the keys in the ignition before entering the school at 95 Church Street, according to Capt. Ronald Smith.
Smith said witnesses saw three young males enter the vehicle and leave, heading toward Chester Street.
Moments later, Sgt. Michael Nawrocki saw the stolen vehicle, which was disabled, in the area of Benham Street and Mix Avenue, according to Smith. Nawrocki saw the three boys get out and run toward Vantage Road.
Officers Angela Vey and Brian Jackson soon found the three teens hiding in the back yard of Vantage Road Residents, according to Smith.
The juveniles, two 15-year-old Hamden residents and a 16-year-old Hamden resident, were all arrested. They were each charged with first-degree larceny and interfering with a police officer. They were released to the custody of their parents and are all scheduled to appear at Juvenile Court in New Haven at a later date, Smith said.
