GREENWICH, CT — Graffiti has cropped up at various locations around town recently, and First Selectman Fred Camillo is speaking out about the vandalism.
Graffiti has been spotted this month on two garbage cans on Arch Street and Soundview Drive, the marina pay station in Cos Cob, a public works sign in Cos Cob on River Road, and on private property on Greenwich Avenue, according to the Greenwich Police Department and Department of Public Works. DPW will be cleaning up the areas; the Parking Services Department was notified about the pay station.
During his updates portion of Wednesday's Board of Selectmen meeting, Camillo mentioned the incidents and said there is "zero tolerance" for that type of behavior.
"We're unfortunately seeing some graffiti, especially around Cos Cob and the marina area. It's illegal. If you're caught, you're going to get arrested and you're going to be prosecuted," Camillo said. "We're watching it. There are cameras all around. If you think you can get away with it, there's always a good chance you may not. So don't take that risk, and obey the laws."
The GPD will be looking into the matter.
"It's just not right to damage someone else's property," said GPD Lt. John Slusarz. "It's certainly not acceptable to damage government property, especially signs and buildings. We will fully investigate this, and take all appropriate action necessary to prevent this from happening, and to find the people who are responsible."
