MANASSAS, VA — A 20-year-old man was assaulted and robbed at gunpoint in Haymarket on Monday afternoon, according to the Prince William County Police Department. The victim suffered serious injuries, and the five robbers are still at large. The incident began in a parking lot near the intersection of Liberia Avenue and Mathis Avenue in Manassas, police said. The victim was parked in his car when he was approached by an unknown man who requested a ride. Authorities said the victim obliged and let the man into the car. They drove to Haymarket, and the unknown man exited the car. A short time later, the man returned to the victim's car with a gun, according to a police report. Police said the suspect then demanded the victim hand over his property. Then, the suspect dragged him the victim out of the car, authorities said on Tuesday. "At some point, a white sedan approached and the four occupants along with the suspect began assaulting the victim," the Prince William County Police Department wrote in their report. Authorities claimed that during the assault, the suspects used a gun to beat the victim. Eventually, he was able to flee the area on foot. While he was running, the victim told police he heard two gunshots. Investigators did not disclose whether any shell casings were found in the area. The victim found a community member who contacted police. The victim was taken to a hospital with "significant injuries," police said. The suspects are described as five Hispanic males. One was about 5 feet, 10 inches tall, weighing about 170 pounds. He had short black hair, and a tattoo on his right arm. He was also wearing a cross necklace. Another suspect was described as a Hispanic male who is 5 feet, 11 inches tall, weighing 190 pounds. Police said he also had short black hair. The remaining three suspects were only described as Hispanic males with black hair.
