BAY SHORE, NY — A Brentwood man used the personal information of three senior citizens from an assisted living community so that he could take out loans for iPhones at Apple stores in multiple states, Suffolk County police said.
Police said that an investigation by the Financial Crimes Unit detectives revealed that over three years, Darrel Sharpeson, 37, went to Apple store locations and used three Atria Bay Shore residents' information to complete loan applications in their names.
The first case was reported to Suffolk County Police in October 2019, police said.
Detectives are continuing to investigate and are examining how Sharpeson obtained the victims' personal information, according to police.
Sharpeson was charged with three counts of first-degree identity theft, and six counts of second-degree identity theft. He is being held overnight at the 3rd Precinct and will be arraigned at First District Court in Central Islip on Tuesday.
Detectives are asking anyone who believes they may be a victim of Sharpeson to contact the Financial Crimes Unit at 631-852-6120, or the non-emergency police phone number, 631-852-COPS (2677).
