HOWARD COUNTY, MD — Half a dozen Howard County students have received scholarships in the final round of distributions from the National Merit Scholarship Corporation. More than 1,000 scholarship winners were announced in this last round of scholarships.
This year, 160 colleges and universities are sponsoring more than 4,100 Merit Scholarship awards. Sponsor colleges include 85 private and 75 public institutions located in 42 states and the District of Columbia.
This final group of winners brings the number of 2021 National Merit Scholars to more than 7,500. These distinguished high school graduates will receive scholarships for undergraduate study worth a total of nearly $30 million.
Howard County students receiving a National Merit scholarship in the final round are:
Lily M. Li of Clarksville, River Hill High School, intends to study computer science, received a scholarship from the University of MarylandMax O. Goldberg of Columbia, Long Reach High School, intends to study computer science, received a scholarship from the University of MarylandHelen S. Li of Ellicott City, Centennial High School, intends to study computer science, received a scholarship from the University of MarylandThanu Sree Mallela of Ellicott City, Centennial High School, intends to study medicine, received a scholarship from Case Western Reserve UniversityIsaac A. Mammel of Ellicott City, Centennial High School, intends to study mathematics, received a scholarship from the University of MarylandAllen Y. Yuan of Ellicott City, Marriotts Ridge High School, intends to study environmental science, received a scholarship from the University of Maryland
