Power Restored To Most In Ocean County After Storm

OCEAN COUNTY, NJ — Just over 3,300 homes remained without electrical service Wednesday evening after strong thunderstorms that moved through Ocean County. At its peak, more than 22,000 homes were without electrical service. The majority of the outages were in Lakewood, where more than 15,700 customers were without power, according to the Jersey Central Power & Light outage map. The Lakewood Scoop reported a transformer fire happened in the township and the outages were causing travel delays. All but 1,579 Lakewood customers had their service restored by 6:30 p.m. Brick Township, which was only mildly affected at first, had more than 1,600 homes without power as of 6:30 p.m. due to a downed power line. All other towns where outages had existed saw theirs reduced to a smattering of homes. The computer-generated estimates said the lingering outages should be restored by 9:30 p.m., according to the website.
