TOMS RIVER, NJ — A Toms River man has pleaded guilty to robbery in connection with a New Year's Eve bank robbery in 2019, the Ocean County Prosecutor's Office said Wednesday.
Patrick Callahan, 47, pleaded guilty before Superior Court Judge Guy P. Ryan, Prosecutor Bradley D. Billhimer said. He is scheduled to be sentenced Sept. 8, and Billhimer said the prosecutor's office will seek a seven-year prison sentence under the plea agreement, subject to the terms of the No Early Release Act.
Callahan walked in to the Chase Bank on Route 37 West about 3:30 p.m. on Dec. 31, 2019, handed a note to the bank teller indicating that he had a gun, and left on foot with about $1,000 in cash.
Through their investigation, Toms River detectives identified Callahan as the person responsible for the robbery. He was arrested Jan. 2, 2020 by Mount Laurel police officers, Billhimer said.
Billhimer said Senior Assistant Prosecutor Meghan O'Neill handled the case on behalf of the state.
Toms River police, the FBI Red Bank Office, the Ocean County Sheriff's Office Crime Scene Investigation Unit and K-9 Unit, and Mount Laurel police collaborated on the investigation.
