BALTIMORE, MD — A potentially hazardous situation closed Calvert Street downtown in Baltimore Tuesday afternoon, officials said.
A natural gas leak was reported in the area of Calvert Street, which was closed from Baltimore to Fayette streets, the Baltimore Firefighters Union IAFF Local 734 reported before 4:30 p.m.
Fire crews conducted readings at the buildings in the area and found zero gas, officials said.
BGE was at the scene, firefighters reported before 5 p.m., noting some lanes may be closed while utility crews make the repairs.
Natural gas levels underground were elevated, prompting the closure, the Baltimore Firefighters Union IAFF Local 734 reported before 4:30 p.m.
Calvert Street was closed from Baltimore to Fayette Street, officials reported. People were advised to avoid the area.
