Press release from the City of San Antonio: July 19, 2021 SAN ANTONIO — Following a competitive solicitation process, the City of San Antonio selected the Maestro Entrepreneur Center (MEC) to facilitate the Embracing Entrepreneurial Equity Program, focused on offering support for Black, Latinx and other historically underserved entrepreneurs. Individuals may submit applications or community members may nominate entrepreneurs from Monday, July 19, 2021 at 9:00 a.m. CST to Monday, August 9, 2021 at 11:59 p.m. CST. The Embracing Entrepreneurial Equity application and nomination form are available in both English and Spanish. City Council allocated $250,000 in the Fiscal Year 2021 Budget to create the Embracing Entrepreneurial Equity Program. The program was created to provide hands on, one-on-one coaching, business organization referrals, and technical assistance for ten (10) aspiring entrepreneurs. This program will focus on Black, Latinx and other historically underserved entrepreneurs, and is part of the City of San Antonio's ongoing initiatives to empower and further establish local businesses owned by persons of color and women. This entrepreneurial program aims to support aspiring entrepreneurs and build the capacity of existing entrepreneurs in underserved communities. Selected participants will be granted up to $20,000 after successfully meeting milestones, as determined by MEC and approved by the City of San Antonio's Economic Development Department (EDD). MEC's goal is to a facilitate a program that will offer resources and support to underserved entrepreneurs with the ultimate goal of fostering economic equity within the city. MEC would like to acknowledge the City of San Antonio's Economic Development Department for their dedication in assisting historically underserved entrepreneurs.
