AUSTIN, TX — Austin Fire Department's newest station is officially in service.
Austin Fire Station 51, which is located at 5410 Highway 290, went in service at noon Sunday and will serve citizens in the Travis County and Sunset Valley areas of southwest Austin, according to fire officials.
Firefighters from Station 51 responded to their first fire on Sunday, which was in the kitchen of the CK Thai Cuisine located at 5207 Brodie Lane, according to a department tweet.

The first opened last year for Del Valle and southeast Austin, officials said.
Authorities said a grand opening and tour of the new fire station will be available in the coming weeks.
