Although she's excited to represent her city and country as she strives for gold at the Olympics, Gibson told Austonia she hopes to show young athletes that any goal can be achieved through perseverance. "Always have fun and remember where you came from, and remember why you started doing what you're doing," Gibson said. "If you can take a step back and remind yourself of the real reason why you're doing it, that really helps you keep pushing through the really hard times." At her first Olympic Trials in 2016, Gibson placed sixth in 3-meter springboard, and moved up a spot to fifth in the event this year, according to Team USA officials.
