Water And Sewer Rate Hearing Set For Aug. 4

By John Gibson, WNIN July 21, 2021 If you want to speak up about proposed rate increases by the Evansville Water and Sewer Utility, you may want to circle August 4th on your calendar. The Indiana Office of Utility Consumer Counselor has set that date for a public hearing at USI's Mitchell Auditorium. The event is scheduled to begin at 6:00 p.m. The agency will hear public testimony on proposed rate increases that would pay for a new water treatment plant in Evansville. Parts of the current facility at 1301 Waterworks Road date back to the 1890s. The new plant would be built across the road on the current site of the city garage, which would have to be relocated. Construction of the new plant, along with the replacement of water lines, totals $220 million. To cover the costs, the average water customer currently paying about $40 a month would pay about $54 a month by 2026. Officials say the biggest monthly increase in any of the years would be about $3.
