First, today's weather: Clear throughout the day. High: 92 Low: 55. Here are the top stories today in Sacramento: The City of Sacramento is looking at instituting a rent reduction program for downtown businesses hit hard by COVID-19. For small-sized businesses earning under $1 million before the pandemic, the city could waive back-owed rent by 100%. Even after many of the COVID restrictions have been lifted, there is less foot traffic for downtown businesses because so many State workers are working from home. The city is looking at ways to help these businesses. (KCRA3) Two blazes hit the American River Parkway on Monday. The first was about an acre and was quickly extinguished. The Sacramento Fire Department believes that one was human made. The second fire was about 30 acres. It heavily impacted traffic along Business 80 Monday afternoon. (KCRA3)A big rig became wedged under a Highway 99 overcrossing in South Sacramento on Monday, after being hit by a speeding car. The car hit the truck and took out its front suspension, causing the rig to lose control and wedge under the Florin Road overcrossing. No one was injured in the accident. (FOX40) A woman was shot and killed in an Arden Arcade apartment complex overnight on Monday night. The woman's name and age have not been released. No suspect information is available. If you have any information you are urged to to call detectives at (916) 874-5115. (CBS Sacramento)Carmichael could institute fines for residents who waste water. The fines would range from $50 - $500. "The main thing we're asking people to do is to follow a three-day week watering schedule," explained Carmichael Public Information Officer Chris Nelson. The Carmichael Water District is also asking homeowners to fix any leaks in their homes. Residents can request a free home inspection.
