HOBOKEN, NJ — The northern stage of the city's Rebuild By Design anti-flooding project begins this week with the construction of sewer improvements in the areas of Hudson Street between Fourteenth and Fifteenth street. READ MORE: Gov. Murphy Kicks Off Hoboken's $230M Rebuild By Design Project Starting Wednesday, the sewer modification work will necessitate a temporary road closure of Hudson Street between Fourteenth and Fifteenth streets through Aug. 31, the city has said. The DEP will be separating portions of the existing combined sewer system into separate sanitary and stormwater lines. This below-ground work will help prevent storm surge from the Hudson River from penetrating the city through the sewer system, once the above-ground protection (Resist structure) is constructed. This work is a first step in preparing the city for construction of the Resist structure in Hoboken, which will protect from storm surge and begin construction next year. The $230 federal project is meant to protect the city during storm surges. More information about the Rebuild By Design Hudson River Project is available at https://www.nj.gov/dep/floodresilience/rbd-hudsonriver.htm. Other Traffic And Parking Changes Local traffic and deliveries including garage access for residents will be maintained during this time. Sidewalks will remain open to pedestrians throughout the duration of the project. The community will be advised of any temporary parking changes via No-Parking signs at least 3 days in advance.
