Tri-Valley Native Honored At White House For Super Bowl Win

WASHINGTON, DC — Alex Cappa, a Dublin High School graduate and offensive lineman with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, was honored Tuesday alongside his teammates at the White House for the team's 2021 Super Bowl win. But long before Cappa, 26, was scoring accolades in the nation's capital, he was a Gael. In Dublin he was honored by the All-Diablo Foothill Athletic League for his performance as a defensive and offensive lineman, according to his Buccaneers bio. He redshirted in 2013 at Humboldt State University, played 43 games through 2017 and was named Great Northwest Athletic Conference offensive lineman of the year in each of those years. Cappa, who stands 6 feet, 6 inches tall and weighs 305 pounds, was drafted by the Buccaneers 94th overall in the third round of the 2018 National Football League draft. In February, Cappa became a Super Bowl winner when the Bucs bested the Kansas City Chiefs 31 to 9 despite a largely unexceptional performance throughout the season. "But this is a team that didn't fold and always got up, dug deep. ... You know, it's an incredible run by one of the most well-rounded teams in recent memory," said President Joe Biden at Tuesday's ceremony. Biden, who himself played football at the University of Delaware, also took note of the team's "dominant offensive line."
