Description
PLAINFIELD, IL — Residents of Plainfield, it's time to bring out the cardboard and scissors: Plainfield Park District's Cardboard Boat Regatta returns Aug. 6.
To participate, teams will build a boat out of cardboard and duct tape to test its durability and seaworthiness in the cool, blue waters of the Ottawa Street Pool, 23820 W. Ottawa St.
Some regulations to note when boat-making include no reinforcement tubes and no boats can be sealed with paint. They must also be propelled with arms or cardboard paddles. A full list of rulescan be found on the park district's website.
Each boat will be inspected by judges prior to the competition.
Creating a great boat won't be for naught. Participants have the opportunity to take home a prize in categories including fastest boat, best design and most team spirit.
The cost for the event is $10 per participating team and free for spectators.
