Company summary: The Aberdeen Carolina & Western Railway is the largest privately held shortline or regional freight railroad in North Carolina that connects with both CSX and Norfolk Southern national rail networks. Our lines run from Charlotte towards Raleigh, and extends south towards Pinehurst. Logistically, our railroad is centrally located between all major metropolitan areas in NC. We actively market greenfield industrial sites along our corridor to attract new industry. Through one of our newest ventures, we have expanded our network to include a sister transloading services company. Job Title: Terminal Assistant/ Equipment Operator Job summary: We are searching for a motivated Terminal Assistant who can operate machinery, multiple pieces of equipment, and provide general laborer services to ensure the smooth and successful operation of one of our busiest transload yards. Our Terminal Assistant will be committed to working safely, and delivering service excellence to our customers within the transload facility. Our Terminal Assistant will participate in the inventory management and work directly with our Terminal leadman. Job Duties and Responsibilities: • Comply with all safety protocols according to FRA, OSHA, other related agency regulations and company policies • Operate heavy equipment to assist in transload operations between customer and ACWR • Work outdoors in all weather conditions at the Oakboro transload yard • Assist in performing inspections and site visits on company and customer properties • Manage time effectively • Build relationships with customers to ensure service excellence to all sites • Troubleshoot any potential problems timely and professionally, work with Terminal Leadman to ensure customer satisfaction with solutions • Complete documentation and paperwork required for service and operations • Manage inventory, offer assistance in tracking inbound and outbound carloadings • Assist the loading and unloading of inbound or outbound railcars • Assist in the general maintenance of equipment and facility • Ensure timely carload movements to avoid demurrage • Wear and practice safety with proper Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) • Ability to work unsupervised at times • Perform other duties as requested Job requirements and qualifications: Minimum qualifications: • 1+ year of work experience with railroad or transload operations • High School Diploma or GED • Exceptional writing and communication skills • Proficiency in MS Office applications specifically Word and Excel • Self-driven, ability to work well with others or remotely, motivated • Experienced and able to operate multiple pieces of equipment or have the ability to learn how to operate multiple pieces of equipment quickly • Heavy equipment operation experience • General clerical paperwork experience • General laborer experience • Understanding of logistics for customers and rail supply chain (equipment and crew scheduling) Preferred Qualifications • Previous transload or rail terminal experience Knowledge and skills • Knowledge of rail operations and physical infrastructure • Knowledge of rail safety and safety culture • Knowledge of transload operations • Cultural awareness and sensitivity • Analytical skills and negotiation skills • Ability to be decisive and exercise good judgment • Prior experience utilizing Microsoft Office programs • Ability to orchestrate multiple activities in a high-paced environment • Written and oral communication skills • Knowledge of transloading equipment operation and maintenance • Ability to maintain composure in high stress situations • Focus on being customer-centric ACWR Primary Location: Oakboro, NC Relocation Available: N/A Salary: $16.00 an hour after training/probationary period Number of Openings: 1 Benefits: $500 sign on bonus, Railroad Retirement, health, and other benefits after probationary period completed Background check and pre-employment drug test required
