Five Men Recognized For Saving Unconscious People In Water

PLAINFIELD, IL — First responders and five bystanders helped rescue two unconscious people in the water June 4. They were recognized at the Plainfield Fire Protection District's Board of Trustees meeting July 13. After the first responders were on their way to the Plainfield Fishing Club after a call of a possible drowning, five bystanders — Joshua Santos, David Ibarra, Damoni Myers, Omar Ortiz and Sebastian Barraza — entered the water to save the people. Before the fire department arrived, the five men already rescued a 4-year-old. The men, along with the sheriff's deputies and a police officer, Ricardo Robles, then rescued a 31-year-old from the water. "We are thankful for the assistance provided during this rescue call," the Plainfield Fire Protection District said in a statement. In a Facebook post, the Plainfield Police Department said they were proud of Robles in his added efforts. "We are very proud of our own Officer Robles, who assisted in a water rescue incident early last month," the post said. "A job well done by all bystanders and emergency personnel involved!" Local first responders, including from Minooka, Channahon and Lockport, came with ambulances and took the two people from the area.
