CRANSTON, RI — Two people were injured in a shooting on Harris Avenue Thursday night, according to Cranston police. Police are still looking for the shooter. The shooting happened about 9:15 p.m., according to police. Two people were injured — a man, 40, and a woman, 44. According to police, the victims were outside the house having a party with their 16-year-old daughter and 25-year-old son when the shooter walked up and starting firing in their direction. The son, who also had a gun, fired back at the man as he ran down Harris Avenue before turning onto Cranston Street. The shooter "continued to fire his gun indiscriminately as he ran down Cranston Street," police said, hitting a parked vehicle and shattering its rear window. The suspect was described as a man with a thin build, about 5 feet, 9 inches tall, wearing a dark sweatshirt, light shorts, white sneakers and a black face mask. Police are also looking for a dark gray or black Acura believed to be involved in the incident. The two victims were taken to Rhode Island Hospital with non-life-threatening injuries and later released. While the motive for the shooting is still unclear, police do not believe it was a random act. "All resources at our department are focused on identifying and apprehending the person responsible for this cowardly and dangerous act of firing multiple rounds in a congested neighborhood on a tranquil summer evening," Cranston Police Chief Michael Winquist said. "It is a miracle that none of the many shots that were fired resulted in a fatality. As we continue our investigation and develop leads in the case, it appears that this was a targeted and isolated incident, and our residents should be assured they are safe."
