PASADENA, CA — The Pasadena Unified School District currently has no plans to require any of its employees to get the COVID-19 vaccine, according to Pasadena Now. PUSD Superintendent Brian McDonald told the magazine that vaccinations are currently voluntary for all school employees, and any policy change would need to be discussed by the Board of Education. The school board has been on a summer recess since June 30 and is scheduled to reconvene July 29. The superintendent's comments follow Monday's City Council meeting where City Manager Steve Mermell said a policy was being developed that would require all city employees to get a coronavirus vaccination. The city has experienced a surge in coronavirus cases in recent weeks, prompting the Pasadena Public Health Department to announce it will soon reinstate an indoor mask mandate, regardless of a person's vaccination status.
