OSWEGO, IL — The village is getting creative with its reusing and recycle. Residents can collect bottle caps and lids and donate them to help build benches for the Kendall County fairgrounds.
The old lids and caps can be dropped off in the lobby of Oswego Village Hall during regular business hours Monday through Friday. The initiative is in partnership with the Kendall County Fair Association.
It takes about 200 pounds of plastic and $250 to create new benches from the recycled materials, but lots of items are acceptable. Lids from butter and creamer containers and caps from plastic bottles, medicine bottles, milk jugs, hair spray cans are accepted for the project. In short, any lid or cap with recycling symbols 2, 4 and 5 can be used for the new benches.
When in doubt, officials said to drop the cap or lid in water and if it floats, it can be turned into a bench.
Those interested in sponsoring the project can get recognized with a plaque on their bench. More information can be found on Kendall County Fair's website.
Village Hall is open from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Monday through Friday.
