PALM DESERT, CA — Heads up, motorist, pedestrian and cycling scofflaws! A bicycle- and pedestrian-safety operation will be held Monday in Palm Desert as the Riverside County Sheriff's Department aims to reinforce safety on area roadways for drivers and people out-and-about and exercising outdoors. Deputies will be on the look-out, July 26 from 6 a.m. to 2 p.m., for drivers speeding, making illegal turns, failing to yield to pedestrians in crosswalks, failing to stop for signs and signals or any other traffic violation by bike riders or pedestrians. "The safety of bicyclists and pedestrians remains a top priority for the Riverside County Sheriff's department," the agency said, adding that, so far this year, the department has logged 12 injury collisions involving bicyclists and pedestrians.
