Description

PHILADELPHIA — A Philadelphia police office is being charged with tampering with evidence and will be fired after video showed him allegedly deleting video from a person's cell phone. Officer Tyree Burnett has been charged with tampering with evidence, official oppression, and obstruction of justice, according to court records. Burnett was charged Wednesday in connection with a March incident in which he was seen on video apparently deleting video from a man he was arresting's phone, Action News reports. During a stop on March 23, Burnett ordered a man who was recording the interaction on his phone out of a vehicle, but body camera footage showed Burnett tapping on the man's phone, apparently deleting the video, according to Fox 29. Action News reports, however, it's unclear if the video was actually deleted. Burnett has been suspended for 30 days and will be terminated at the end of those 30 days. His preliminary hearing is scheduled for Aug. 20, court documents show.
