PHILADELPHIA — Authorities in Philadelphia have charged a Reading man with murder and related crimes in connection with a fatal shooting that occurred outside the popular cheesesteak shop Pat's King of Steaks earlier this week. The argument erupted over football, according to a report by the Philadelphia Inquirer. Court records show Paul Burkert, 36, of Reading, has been charged with murder, tampering with evidence, recklessly endangering another person, firearm crimes, and more. >>>Want to win Six Flags Great Adventure Season Passes? He is accused of shooting and killing a 23-year-old man — identified as David Padro, of Camden, New Jersey by Fox 29 — at about 12:55 a.m Thursday while outside the popular cheesesteak business. Action News reports Padro and Burkert got into an argument, then a physical fight while waiting in line at the eatery before Padro was shot. The Philadelphia Inquirer reports the two were arguing about the Philadelphia Eagles and the New York Giants, according to Pat's general manager. Burket was taken into custody near the Liberty Bell after turning himself over to police several minutes following the shooting. His preliminary hearing is scheduled for Aug. 9, court records show.
