MANHATTAN BEACH, CA —The monuments that are to memorialize the Bruce Family at two Manhattan Beach locations may be delayed.
The Manhattan Beach City Council agreed Tuesday to send the proposed language for the plaques back to the History Advisory Board on Bruce's Beach to address various concerns and add supporting information. No vote was required.
The proposed language for the Strand plaque and for the Bruce's Beach Park plaque were discussed before the council requested that the panel take another look.
"The plaque is going to be there for decades, if not longer, and we want this to be right," Manhattan Beach Mayor Suzanne Hadley said at the city council meeting. "This is a good first draft, but it's too soon to act tonight."
The approved language will be engraved on the plaques, which will then be set in stone. The final cost for both monuments will be $20,000.
