JOLIET, IL — Joseph Spain, a 39-year-old man who lives in the Plainfield area, was arrested this week on charges of aggravated domestic battery after his victim was taken by ambulance to AMITA Health Saint Joseph Medical Center, according to Joliet police. Around 3:30 a.m. Saturday, Joliet police were called to Spain's house in the 4700 block of Mallard Lane for a domestic battery report, authorities said. "Officers determined that an adult female had been battered by her husband, Spain. Further investigation determined while Spain and the victim were in the garage, Spain struck the victim in the face with a closed fist," Joliet police said. After being hit in the face by Spain, the victim called 911 and Spain left the house, according to police. A Joliet Fire Department ambulance took the woman to the hospital for treatment of her injuries. Two days later, on Monday afternoon, Joliet police arrested Spain after he turned himself in to detectives. Will County Jail records show that Spain was booked into custody around 5:15 p.m. and he was released at 6:25 p.m. Tuesday, after posting 10 percent of his $30,000 bail. Joliet police also arrested Spain last summer on domestic battery charges, and Joliet Patch wrote about his arrest at that time. However, Spain's charges were dismissed by Will County prosecutors after the victim did not show up to testify at a court hearing, court documents show.
