SANTA ROSA, CA — The Salvation Army thanked the Sonoma County Vintners Foundation for its generous support of the nonprofit's recently expanded transitional living program in Santa Rosa. The Sonoma County Vintners Foundation awarded The Salvation Army with a $10,000 grant to support the program, which helps men who have completed treatment for addiction become productive members of society and return to their families, according to Samantha Jarosz, spokesperson for The Salvation Army in Santa Rosa. The Salvation Army operates two such facilities in Santa Rosa. The nonprofit recently opened its second one, Bridgehouse, and can now house up to 19 men at a time, Jarosz said. The program allows men to stay for up to 24 months; during that time, they work, are provided with a savings account and receive drug and vocational counseling. "This program isn't just a place to land for these men who are all recently sober," said Patrick Thompson, social services director for The Salvation Army Santa Rosa. "We wanted to make it into a home, somewhere safe where they can rebuild their lives and reconnect with family." The $10,000 grant from Sonoma County Vintners Foundation will be used to provide laptops, tools, or anything else the residents might need to be successful in their jobs, as securing and maintaining employment is one of the requirements to joining the program. The nonprofit has been serving people in Santa Rosa for more than 130 years, and its transitional living program has a success rate of 80 percent of men staying sober past five years. "It is our hope that someday in the near future, we can expand this program even further so that we have more beds available for clients who are striving to get back on their feet again," said Major Randy Hartt, the new Corps Officer of The Salvation Army of Santa Rosa's operations.
