Here are the top stories today in Beaverton: Police say a car accident in the parking lot of a Murray-Schools shopping center resulted in a death Wednesday morning. A vehicle rolled down a steep embankment and hit a tree. The parking lot is closed as officials investigate. (KATU)A Hillsboro police officer is injured after a suspect rammed his vehicle. The incident occurred after police responded to an assault call at Northeast Cornell Road and 51st Avenue where witnesses say a man was wielding a machete and harassing his girlfriend and others. Police later discovered the suspect had a gunshot wound, but it's unclear who shot him. (KATU)Reporter Mike Rogoway provides more info on Apple's lease of a large Beaverton site. The 50,000 square-foot facility at 3555 SW 153rd could accommodate well over 100 employees. Those familiar with the industry offer conjecture that the site will serve as a lab facility for Apple-designed processor chips, although the company has not stated the purpose of the site. (OregonLive)Former TriMet planner Jim Howell voiced his opinion about the new Red Line project that is set to connect the Hillsboro Airport stop to the Beaverton Transit Center. Howell calls the Better Red project "redundant" and "a waste of money." He says he has offered a more efficient alternative, but the transit org has yet to respond.
