WESTLAKE, OH — Adelaide Aquilla will be representing the U.S. and Westlake when she competes at Tokyo Olympics.
Aquilla, a graduate of The Ohio State University, will be competing in shot put during the games. She is currently quarantining for the event. Jared Aquilla, her father, accepted a proclamation from Westlake City Council on his daughter's behalf.
Adelaide qualified for the Olympic team after she took third place at the U.S. Olympic Trials in Oregon in June, according to Ohio State. During her 2021 season, she won two national championships, two Big Ten conference championships, and set school records for indoor and outdoor shot put.
The Olympic games, which kick off with Friday's opening ceremony, run through Aug. 8 in Japan's capital city. Women's shot put will begin competition on Friday.
