Description

Press release from the Guilford County Government: 07/20/2021 Guilford County Parks received 100 bicycle helmets for distribution to local kids and teens through a grant from the North Carolina Department of Transportation's Bicycle and Pedestrian Division. Funded by proceeds from the state's "Share the Road" specialty license plate and the North Carolina Department of Health and Human Services' Traumatic Brain Injury Program, the program has equipped thousands of children with helmets, a simple and essential means of reducing bicycle injuries and fatalities. Guilford County Parks and the Pleasant Garden Fire Department will distribute the helmets at no charge during a bike safety event at Hagan-Stone Park, 5920 Hagan-Stone Park Rd. Pleasant Garden, from 10 to 11:30 a.m. on Friday, July 23. The bike rodeo is open to all children ages 5 to 12. Participants will learn about bicycle safety, practice bike skills and ride an instructional obstacle course. "We want to teach each child how to properly wear a helmet when riding their bike" said Anthony Ellison, Hagan-Stone Park Supervisor. "This event is an opportunity to learn, practice, and demonstrate bike handling skills in a fun, safe, and encouraging atmosphere". The event is a part of Guilford County Parks National Parks and Recreation Month celebration, an initiative of the National Recreation and Park Association (NRPA). The month-long celebration features guided hikes, tours and more.
