NC Man Gets 8 Years In Prison For Snapchat Solicitation Of Minors

NORTH CAROLINA — A North Carolina man was sentenced to 210 months behind bars in federal prison this week for soliciting minors to send him sexually explicit photos through the popular social media app, Snapchat, according to the Department of Justice's U.S. Attorney's Office in the Western District of Virginia. Jason Kelly Inman, 41, and of Mount Airy, North Carolina, used Snapchat to solicit at least four males between 14-16 years of age to send him sexually explicit photographs and videos of themselves, according to court documents. The victims all lived in Galax, Virginia. "Inman admitted that between June 2020 and December 2020, his general pattern of behavior was to exchange messages with his victims using Snapchat and provide the victims with gifts, including alcohol, marijuana, vape cartridges, money, and cell phones," DOJ said in a statement. "Inman would then turn the conversation toward sexual issues, eventually requesting and receiving sexually explicit photographs and videos from his victims via Snapchat, in exchange for the victims continuing to receive gifts." Inman traveled to Virginia to deliver the gifts, however there is no evidence he had physical contact with the victims, DOJ said. "This case demonstrates the lengths sexual predators will go seek out, win the trust of, and then victimize children. It also is a reminder of the dangers that exist for children online," Acting U.S. Attorney Daniel Bubar said in a statement.
