COBB COUNTY, GA — Cobb County police are investigating a fatal multi-car crash that unfolded just before 5:30 a.m. Wednesday morning on Interstate 75 between Delk Road and South Marietta Parkway, police said in a news release.
Investigators said at 5:21 a.m., the driver of a Chevrolet van was headed northbound in the left lane on I-75 when a tire went flat. As the van slowed and changed lanes to the right, it was rear ended by a Ford F-150, driven by 56-year-old Juan Trejo of Cumming.
Shortly after both cars came to a stop in one of the travel lanes, a Toyota Scion crashed into the back of the Ford.
The driver of the Toyota — who has only been identified as an adult male — was seriously injured in the crash and taken to Wellstar Kennestone Hospital where he was pronounced dead, police said. He has yet to be identified.
Trejo, the driver of the Ford, as well as four unidentified adult male passengers of the Chevrolet were all taken to Wellstar Kennestone with non-life-threatening injuries.
Meanwhile, the driver of the Chevrolet left the scene on foot before first responders arrived, a Cobb police spokesperson said. He has not been located.
The crash is still under investigation. Anyone with information is asked to call 770-499-3987.
