MARIETTA, GA — Marietta Police Department officials announced the unexpected death of Maj. Steve Campisi, a 26-year veteran of the department, Tuesday night via social media. No other details about Campisi's death are being released out of respect for his family's privacy, MPD spokesperson Chuck McPhilamy said. He did not die in the line of duty. "Major Campisi had an infectious smile, laugh and charm...excitedly welcoming new officers assigned to Morning Watch; his favorite shift," the department wrote. "RIP Brother, we have the watch from here." Campisi was 50 when he died, and leaves behind his wife and three sons. His funeral is open to the public and scheduled Monday, July 26 at 4 p.m. at Due West Methodist Church, McPhilamy said, located at 3956 Due West Road in Marietta. Guests wanting to attend are encouraged to get there by 3:30 p.m. To send flowers, they must be sent to the church before 2 p.m. McPhilamy said there will be no visitation, per the family's wishes. Any law enforcement wishing to attend the funeral and escort his remains from the funeral home are asked to meet with MPD Sgt. Brian Honea at Mayes Ward Dobbins Funeral Home, 180 Church St. NE in Marietta, on Monday at 1:30 p.m.
