MINEOLA, NY — The Nassau Republicans have their candidate to challenge State Senator Todd Kaminsky in the fall. Anne Donnelly was selected Monday night by the county GOP, Newsday reported. Donnelly, 56, from Garden City, is a career prosecutor in the Nassau district attorney's office for more than three decades. She is deputy chief of the Organized Crime & Rackets Bureau. As the Nassau GOP posted on its Facebook page, "[Donnelly] has dedicated herself to putting dangerous criminals in jail. Her opponent is a career opportunist who has spent his time in the State Senate writing bail laws that released thousands of dangerous inmates from jail." Kaminsky campaign spokesperson Rich Orsillo did not focus on their opponent in a new statement: "Todd Kaminsky is a fearless prosecutor who has put violent criminals behind bars and led the convictions of corrupt politicians from both parties—and his record is second-to-none. As District Attorney, he will continue to protect Long Islanders and be a tireless champion for Nassau County, delivering again and again for our families without being beholden to party bosses." The Nassau district attorney became an open slot when Madeline Singas was confirmed for the state Court of Appeals in June. Kaminsky, a former federal prosecutor who also worked for the Nassau D.A., announced his candidacy last month.
