For Special Education Teachers, you’ll need: • Bachelor’s or Master’s Degree in Special Education. • NYS Teacher's Certification in Special Education. For Preschool Special Education Teachers: • Knowledge of Early Childhood Education, Child Development, required through completion of a Master’s Degree in Special Education. • New York State Certification in Special Education required • Birth-2 certification • Minimum one (1) year early childhood related experience to plan individual education plans (IEP’s) to meet the special needs of each child preferred. Prior early childhood teaching experience with a special education preschool required. For Preschool Special Education Teachers: • High school diploma/GED and college credits in early childhood. • NYS Teacher Assistant Certification (ATAS) within 6 months of hire date. • State Central Registry Clearance; Workshop-School Violence Intervention and Prevention. • Good communication skills. • Demonstrated willingness and aptitude working for individuals with intellectual and other developmental disabilities. Brookville Center for Children’s Services serves students 3-21 years of age with multiple disabilities, intellectual disabilities, traumatic brain injury, and autism.
