Job Description We are looking for an enthusiastic and energetic individual to join our Buildings and Grounds staff. The Hartsbrook School is a small independent school located on 54 acres in Hadley, MA. Our campus is comprised of a variety of buildings, play grounds, athletic fields, outdoor classrooms, gardens, and agricultural land – we are looking for a someone to join our maintenance staff to keep our campus looking good and functioning well. Position: The position of Custodian is a part-time, 20 hour per week position throughout the year. This is a M-F position, but also includes work for events which may fall in the evening or on a weekend. The position will begin immediately. Pay Rate: Starting hourly rate is $13.50/hour, commensurate with directly relevant experience. There will be a performance review after 90 days. Job Responsibilities include: You will be part of the Hartsbrook Buildings & Grounds staff, with primary daily work of: • Regular cleaning of public spaces as needed, indoors and outside, during the day and for emergencies, including windows and doors, trash overflow, and sweeping interior and exterior spaces • Inspecting interior and exterior spaces, and recognizing and removing safety hazards to employees and students • Monitoring and stocking of bathroom, trash and kitchen facilities, including keeping track of supplies needed • Performing light maintenance work as needed for buildings & grounds • Performing regularly scheduled light preventative maintenance work • Aiding Operations Manager with tasks as needed Skills Needed: • Basic cleaning skills and able to take initiative to keep spaces clean and tidy • Ability to take responsibility and work independently • Detail oriented with ability to follow through on assigned tasks • Strong organizational skills • Familiarity with operation and basic maintenance of cleaning equipment. Physical Requirements: The candidate must also meet physical requirements of the job including the following: • Able to exert up to 50 lbs. force • Visual acuity to operate motor vehicles • Ability to stand, walk, and bend for long periods • Ability to work outdoors in various weather conditions of hot/cold/rain/snow/sun • Able to move safely over uneven terrain. Education and Experience Requirements: • High school diploma or equivalent • Basic math skills • High school courses in shop and repair experience are a benefit
