Looking for a bassist for a new project

Meets

Superior near California, Chicago IL

Description

We are a guitarist and drummer who have been playing together on and off for the past ten years. We're both in our early 30's, if that matters to you. We've performed quite a bit in the Chicago area but not so much recently. Looking for a bassist to get together once per week to jam, write, and record for a brand new collaborative project. Eventually I'd like to start playing shows maybe once every month or two in the Chicago area. What matters most is that you can play bass... well. You should be comfortable playing in the pocket, understand when/how to step out of it, and have internalized that the most important aspect of playing music (particularly with other people) is LISTENING. This three piece arrangement should give a lot of space to fill out the sound. Gender/age/religion/race/etc do not matter to us as long as you are a generally nice, tolerant person who doesn't have an active drug/drinking problem, are reliable (don't flake on rehearsals/shows). I refuse to be around any drugs you put up your nose (unless it's literally Flonase) or in your arm. We are 420 and moderate drinking friendly. Influences are wide and varied, from trip-hop and post rock to funk, to the occasional metal. Music that's recently been on our minds a lot lately are Hiatus Kaiyote, Jimi Hendrix, Jamiroquai, and The Isley Brothers, but we're also pretty heavily influenced by Tool, Mastodon, RHCP ('80's-90's), The Mars Volta, Stone Temple Pilots, etc. We already have a practice space with recording equipment, amps, etc. I even have gear (G&L 4 and 5 string basses and a GK/Mesa halfstack) for you to use if you don't want to bring your stuff. We'd want to add a singer or other instruments later (unless our writing leads more towards an instrumental arrangement), but if you can sing or play keyboards, that's a huge plus. Hit me up if this sounds interesting!
