SALARY: $20.30 - $27.21 Hourly OPENING DATE: 07/19/21 CLOSING DATE: Continuous OVERVIEW: The City of Tigard is seeking a temporary Facilities Grounds Maintenance Worker to join the Central Services Department (Facilities Division.) All temporary positions are limited to 1040 hours; the precise duration of the assignment is to be determined. The job duties as described below are performed in several locations at city facilities including; City Hall, Tigard Senior Center and the Tigard Public Library. Additional Information: Successful candidates must pass a physical capacities test designed to evaluate ability to perform the essential physical functions of the job EXAMPLES OF DUTIES: Maintains city property including mowing, trimming and edging, fertilizing, watering lawns and other landscaped areas. Maintains city property in a clean and safe condition, including trash pick-up and maintaining trash receptacle's and enclosures. Participates in installing and repairing irrigation equipment, including installing irrigation pipes, valves and controls, testing systems and performing repairs and preventive maintenance. May participate in the proper application of pesticides and fertilizer for turf, shrubs and trees. Ensures property landscaping is maintained at high standards. Participates in a variety of technical landscape duties, including planting and trimming flowers, shrubs, and trees. Performs a variety of semi-skilled manual labor duties; maintenance services, construction, and repair operations within the Facilities Division of Central Services. Uses manual tools and occasionally operates trucks and medium-duty mechanized equipment. Performs multiple tasks on a daily basis; ability to adjust to changing situations and circumstances as they arise. Desirable qualifications: Ability to use vehicles, tools, and equipment required to perform duties. Skill in the use and care of hand and power tools. Ability to perform physical labor for extended periods of time in adverse weather conditions, understand and follow oral and written instructions, work independently. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: Any combination of training and experience, which would provide the required knowledge, skills, and abilities is qualifying. A typical way to obtain the required qualifications would be: Equivalent to the completion of the twelfth (12th) grade AND One (1) year of experience in construction, repair, operation, and maintenance of streets, underground utilities, routine service of light and heavy vehicles and other power driven equipment, or parks and landscape. NECESSARY SPECIAL QUALIFICATIONS: Must be at least 18 years of age. Upon completion of reference checks, the finalist for this position will be extended a conditional offer of employment subject to passing a physical, drug screening and background checks prior to the final job offer.
