The following duties are typical for this classification. These are not to be construed as exclusive or all-inclusive as other duties may be required and assigned. RESPONSIBILITIES •The responsibilities of the Heavy Equipment Mechanic include, but are not limited to: •Inspect machines or heavy equipment to diagnose defects, faults, or malfunctions to determine required repairs. •Repair and replace damaged or worn parts. •Schedule maintenance for company equipment and keep service records. •Weld or solder broken parts and structural members, using electric or gas welders and soldering tools. •Repairs or replaces fuses, batteries, lights, instruments, warning devices, controls and switches, computer controls, modules, alternators, starters, and defective cables and wiring. •Knowledge of the standard practices, materials, tools, and equipment used in the repair and maintenance of heavy equipment and engines. •Cleaning, lubricating, and conducting routine services on heavy-duty equipment. •Driving to the job site to perform repair work on heavy equipment when is necessary. SKILLS •Skill in the use of a variety of hand tools. •Ability to lift, bend, push and pull minimum of 15 pounds. •Good communication skills. PHYSICAL DEMANDS •Bending: Bending, stretching, and twisting are required during inspection of the equipment. •Crawling/Kneeling: Occasionally crawling to check equipment/machinery for safe day-to-day operation and for general maintenance needs. •Climbing: Ladder climbing is performed to enter/exit the equipment or machinery. •Lifting/Carrying: Parts of heavy equipment/machinery, move heavy objects with minimum of 15 pounds. •Sensory Demands: Suitable hearing, near and far sighted vision, and great spatial perception. •Pushing/Pulling: Parts of the equipment during the inspection and/or maintenance. NOTE: FIT FOR DUTY – PHYSICAL EXAM BASED ON PHYSICAL DEMANDS
