Ironworker/Structural Steel Welder Ironworkers use their skills and equipment to perform tasks such as erection of structural steel buildings including rigging, bolting, and general welding in conjunction with all aspects of these job descriptions. Duties may also include acting as a fire watch or confined space attendant where required. Ironworkers must be able to work at great heights. The work is very strenuous, dangerous, and is often done in adverse weather conditions. Work involves climbing, bending squatting, sitting, standing, and heavy lifting. Ironworkers often work in a noisy environment due to working with or around air-operated tools, heavy lifting machinery, compressors and welding machines. Among the hand tools required are wrenches, heavy hammers, bull pins, sleever bars, tool belts, pouches, safety harnesses, and lanyards. Essential Task Connecting- Connecting beams, joist, girders, and columns from a boomlift platform 40ft or more in the air. Rigging- Properly and safely rigging steel members with wire rope slings in preparation to be hoisted by crane or forklift. Welding- Must be able and certified to stick weld in 3G and 4G positions while in the air from a boomlift platform or mounted on steel girder. Requirements Attendance: Regular attendance and punctuality are essential for the smooth operation of this company and performance of worker's duties. Travel: Workers must be willing to travel and spend a lot of time on the road. Our projects span from NJ, PA, MD, and DE. Transportation: Workers must have transportation to get to assigned projects. Tools & Equipment: Workers must possess and maintain tools and equipment to perform their tasks. Training and Certification: Workers must complete all necessary training and certification required by OSHA, the American Institute of Steel Construction, and the company. Physical Stamina: Workers must have high endurance because they spend many hours on their feet while lifting heavy steel components. They must have ability to climb vertical ladders, bend, lift & carry equipment and materials on elevated scaffolds, and maintain balance. Physical Strength: Workers must be strong enough to move heavy materials components into place. Many are up to 100 lbs. in weight. Unafraid of Heights: Ironworkers must work at great heights. During steel erection activities, Ironworkers must work several stories above the ground. Safety: Workers must comply with all OSHA, Union, Company and Project safety requirements and training.
