I just read an article that Russia is seriously warning our leaders to not put our tax dollar paid for new USA missiles in Europe! In 1957 when the USA wanted to deploy our new Nuclear missile to France, French President Rene Coty said "NO!" "The Cold War has cooled off, and if the USA puts Nuclear weapons anywhere in Western Europe, the Soviets will counter!" Too bad President Eisenhower did not take Coty's advice. Determined to expand America's nuclear capability Eisenhower told Turkey in 1958 if we can put some of our Missiles in your country, I will pay you real well with American Tax Dollars! Turkey said ok. So our grand parents got to pay the bill to build a brand new USA military base in Turkey 20 miles from the Soviet border, and put 13 nuclear tipped Jupiter Missiles there. The Soviets did not like that and did exactly what Coty warned us about, they built 5 more nuclear bases in Western Eastern Europe. In 1961 our CIA lied to Kennedy and told him they found 200 new Soviet Nuclear bases, but only had spy plane photo's of the existing 15 Soviet nuclear bases they knew about in the Soviet Union. Kennedy believed the CIA liars and added more Jupiter Missiles to our base in Turkey in early 1962. The Soviets did not like that. A few months later the Soviets started sending stuff to Cuba to build a Nuclear base that would be 90 miles from our nearest coast line. I think that was called the Cuban Missile Crisis, and it was 100% Eisenhowers fault it happened. People think Kennedy was a tough President, and he was, PT109 tough, but what few American's know is the Soviets were not going to just stop in Cuba without a war, unless Kennedy agreed to remove all the Jupiter Missiles in Turkey. In April of 1963 the USA removed all our nuclear missiles from Turkey. That wasn't in the news back then, or now. It would have made Kennedy look weak. Ok kids, now think about how much money was wasted by your grand parents government in 1958 to build a military base in Turkey, that would end with the Cuban missile crisis 5 years later. Now think about all the money we have wasted on our Military since then? I am all for being the most powerful Nation on the Planet, but a lot of what our government does often makes things worse, and a lot more expensive. China and Russia are 5 to 20 years behind us depending on the technology. The irony is some companies have practically handed China 50% of their IPR's, and they have been able to steal or hack the rest. If the USA puts hypersonic weapons in Europe, we will be the country causing new tensions. And the Middle Class gets to pay for it. Over the last 60 years excessive unneeded military spending now accounts for 80% of your $29,000,000,000,000.00 National Debt. On a more local issue some politicians are finally accepting that it is a stupid idea to continue our 2004-07 Renewable Energy Act Ethanol Subsidies. I remember when that started, and suddenly all we could buy was gasoline with 10% Moonshine, I mean Ethanol added. Gasoline is a petroleum based product, Ethanol is an alcohol based product. When all that happened the price of Beef, Chicken and Pork went up 25% by mid 2008 because so much corn was diverted from being sold to companies that produced live stock feed, to subsidized companies wanting to refine corn into Moonshine, I mean Ethanol. Ha, not much difference. I'm all for saving the planet and stopping Global Warming, which is what Climate Change was called in 2007. But the production of Ethanol as a fuel is not practical. The irony is those Ethanol corn subsidies go on because some politicians want 99% of us to pay extra in taxes and at the gas pump so 1% of farmers and corporations can get big corporate welfare checks, they will then contribute some of that to their re-election. Oil is historically inexpensive right now and we have plenty of it. Modern vehicles are more efficient and get better fuel economy and their omissions are lower now than 40 years ago. Also my vehicle gets 5% better MPG's with pure gas than with the 10% ethanol commie stuff. It is time to learn from History, while you young people still have a chance. If most of you just looked at the facts, not fake news, and started holding your favorite party to the same standard you hold the other party too, maybe things would change for the better.
