Description
The first care someone gets after injury can be the difference between life and death. Be the Help Until Help Arrives. Learn to become Active Bystanders capable of saving a life. Trauma is the leading cause of death for Americans under 46 years of age, and many victims bleed to death before they can reach the hospital. At a time with skyrocketing incidents of violent antisemitism in our country, learning the skills to save lives is more important than ever. We will be providing training for Jewish community members interested in learning life-saving skills in response to everyday incidents as well as active violence attacks. For any incident, like the Tree of Life Synagogue attack to the Boston Marathon bombings, citizens play a key role in saving lives in the minutes following an attack. It is imperative that we provide the knowledge and skills necessary to help our community save lives until our professional responders can arrive. Attend this class to learn how to recognize violent activities, respond safely, provide immediate rescue tactics to the injured, and report them to 9-1-1 efficiently. The skills you will learn are transferable to countless situations involving traumatic injury, which include car accidents, household injuries, or an active shooter. Come and learn how you can be the help, Until Help Arrives. Topics include: Current environmentActive violence in public spacesPotentially preventableThe Survival ArcRecognize (knowledge is power)Respond (emergency plans, avoid and/or deny and/or defend)Rescue (drags/carries, tourniquets, wound packing, airway management, psychological support)Report (what to say, medical first responder interaction)Students will receive a certificate upon successful completion of the class. The Until Help Arrives curriculum has been developed by the Northern Virginia High Threat Response Program and the Committee on Tactical Emergency Casualty Care. It is recommended by FEMA. Who Should Attend? Anyone! We have had students ranging from mature 10 years olds through golden agers. Attendees should be able to lift 25 lbs. and be able to get up and move around during the training. Dress for the training is casual as you will be practicing and demonstrating skills. Administrative Please register in advance. The class is capped at 40 participants and there is a minimum number of 15 participants needed to run the class. There will be a wait-list if the event fills up. If there is a high demand, we will try to increase the maximum number of participants. (If the event is cancelled due to low enrollment, registration fees will be refunded.) Because resources are allocated based on the number of participants, refund requests will be reviewed on a case-by-case basis based upon exigent circumstances.
