Description
This program is for Spiritual Directors who have already been through the Spiritual Exercises themselves and are looking to guide others. The Spiritual Exercises began as notes St. Ignatius of Loyola kept of his personal experience of prayer and deepening relationship with God. He came to lead others on their own spiritual journey based on his notes and reflections of prayer with Scripture. Over the centuries the Spiritual Exercises, as these notes came to be called, have been a path for seekers to grow in interior freedom in friendship with Jesus Christ. The Cenacle Retreat House was one of only a few places in Houston to train spiritual directors and to guide retreatants in making the Spiritual Exercises Retreat. As interest grew, it seemed natural that the Cenacle Sisters and lay directors would offer an Internship to prepare directors to guide others making the Exercises. The new Emmaus Spirituality Center will continue to offer the Internship to interested directors, who have themselves made the Spiritual Exercises with a trained director, to be prepared to guide retreatants in making the Exercises. The Internship team will provide necessary input, resources and guidance for each segment of the Exercises. Focus will be on the dynamics of the Exercises and movements within the retreatants (and the director) as they listen to the Spirit move them through in the course of the Exercises. Prayerful, informal and interactive training sessions will be held on the third Saturday of each month, Sept. 2021 – May, 2022, from 10:00 am – 12:30 pm. Attendance at all sessions is required. Participants are expected to commit to daily prayer with the Exercises, keeping a prayer journal and sharing their prayer insights and reflections in the group meetings. These sessions will be held on Zoom until we can meet in person. Books needed: To Walk with Christ, Laurence Gooley, S.J. Draw Me into Your Friendship, David Fleming, S.J. The Internship fee is $200.00 an includes the monthly sessions and mentoring by a team member. There is no cost for the informational session.
