Join the Friends of Government Canyon for a guided hike at Government Canyon State Natural Area. Hike Lytle's Loop in the frontcountry to check out the savannah restoration area. This hike is approximately 5 miles in length along a relatively flat trail. Who is Invited: Open to ages 10 and over; minors must be accompanied by their parent or legal guardian. Registration/reservations required! Sorry, no group registrations. When & Where to Meet: Arrive no later than 7:45AM. Meet at the frontcountry trailhead in Parking Lot C. The Natural Area front gates open at 7:00AM; plan to be in Parking Lot C and ready to go no later than 7:45AM. The hike starts promptly at 8:00AM. What to Wear & Bring: Dress for hiking outdoors; sunscreen and hat recommended. Wear sturdy footwear appropriate for rough trails; bring two liters of water PER PERSON and a snack. Requirements: No pets please. Minors must be accompanied by their parent or legal guardian. Participants must be able to hike approximately 5 miles over a relatively flat trail. Registration, Fees & Cancellation: Registration is required for this hike. Group size is limited to the first 10 that register. All Natural Area entry fees apply. Friends of Government Canyon is made up of a growing group of active volunteers who take pride in the work we do — from grooming trails to facilitating education programs to advocating the protection of the Aquifer and numerous resources found within the boundaries of the Natural Area. We are hikers, naturalists, artists, mountain bikers, runners, researchers, clean water advocates and in general, lovers of the outdoors with one common mission; protecting and preserving the Natural Area.
